How I (Finally) Debricked My Router

Backstory Many months ago I bought a cheap refurbished Linksys E1550 Wireless Router. I wanted it so I could install DD-WRT  firmware and get some needed additional functionality not found on the stock Linksys firmware. If you know where I live, then you know what I needed… At any rate, I did all the right things and followed the directions for my router by flashing the mini-E1550 firmware, then flashing the big-nv60k firmware. All went well, it even showed the feature I wanted, yet I could not get it to work. Seeing as the ‘suggested’ firmware was over 3 years Continue Reading →

Guilin

Last month while our son and his wife were here visiting, and so there was someone to take car of the Thor (Beast), we booked a quick tripe to a little town in south eastern China – Guilin. NOTE: There are 4 slideshows in this Post, so it could take a while to load. Please be patient. To me, Guilin is know for three things: mountains that jut straight up out of nowhere, stepped rice farming in said mountains, and the remote village women who never cut their hair (Guinness World Record holders for the longest hair, I believe). 2015 Shanghai International Dog Expo!

Hello faithful followers! It is I, Thor (Beast)! I have once again wrestled the computer away from my Caretakers to write about what an exciting time I had just last week. Using the power of suggestion and mind control, I convinced Love and Food to rent a car and drive through the dangerous and stressful streets of Shanghai to take me to the 2015 Shanghai International Dog Expo! They rented this cheap (50¥/day) RoEwe electric car to get me there and back. It is a nice little car, perfect for buzzing around town. With A/C, power windows and doors, automatic Continue Reading →

Shanghai Museum of Glass

A short while back, we went to the Shanghai Museum of Glass. We’ve been wanting to go for a year now, but its quite a ways away by subway and then switch over to a bus. With our Son and his wife here visiting, it was a perfect time to go. Plus with four of us, we decided to take a taxi for the last leg as it would be just as cheap as four bus tickets. It was a cold and rainy day outside, so it was a perfect day to visit. Its a pretty non-descript building in front, Continue Reading →

Shamu Lives! Again!

And again, and again, and again…. (Another tail of trials and tribulations) Last Oct (2014), Google announced a new Nexus phone, the Nexus 6. Code named ‘Shamu’, because its a massive whale of a phone: 5.96″ screen, quad-core CPU and a 3220 mAh battery. It was time for a new phone. My Galaxy Nexus was showing its age, not only in performance, but in display. The Super AMOLED screen was showing darker and darker gray lines across the screen that made viewing very hard and irritating.   So while I waited the 3 LONG months for someone (Google, Motorola, Amazon, Continue Reading →
