Shanghai Museum of Glass

A short while back, we went to the Shanghai Museum of Glass. We’ve been wanting to go for a year now, but its quite a ways away by subway and then switch over to a bus. With our Son and his wife here visiting, it was a perfect time to go. Plus with four of us, we decided to take a taxi for the last leg as it would be just as cheap as four bus tickets.

It was a cold and rainy day outside, so it was a perfect day to visit.

Its a pretty non-descript building in front, buy there are more building behind housing a glass blowing shot, modern glass art and a cafe’. They also have a building to the side for kids where they can play around creating crafts.

Inside are displays (many interactive) of the history of glass from an eastern perspective as well as modern applications including self-cleaning glass, insulating foam glass, safety glass, heat and shatter resistant glass, etc.

The second floor consists primarily of glass art work and a multitude of late 19th century snuff bottles.

About an hour into our self-guided tour, we stopped to go see a glass blowing demonstration in the other building.

It was fun. It was nice. We’re glad we finally went.
