With our son’s wedding reception looming on the horizon, we found ourselves in the need of supplying a bottle of premium Chinese liquor on every table in the dinner hall. Twelve tables in all.
We’ve been shopping around, and CarreFour has the best deals on Liquor. Plus you can sample them before you buy!
So we emptied their stock of premium Maotai, picked up a couple bottles of aged Havana Club, and a whole bunch of free stuff for our extravagance.
Because we cleared them out of this brand of Maotai, which included an already-opened (but barely used) bottle, they gave us two bottles of special-edition Maotai. Then with all the points we earned on this one sale, we also picked up (for free) 48 rolls of toilet paper, two bottles of orange juice, and three bottles of high-grade soy-sauce with dipping sauce…yum.
You can’t find Havana Club in the U.S. due to their trade embargo with Cube, Barcardi ownership rights dispute, etc. I could go into the history of this and why this is so ridiculous, but I’ll hold off for perhaps another blog post.
A few weeks ago (eh, pretty much when we got here), I started looking for some of my favorite liquors. It was depressing. Most of what I could find for whiskey was Jack Daniels (bla), Sky for vodka, and no Amaretto. Then I stumbled on this wonderful website: shanghai9.cn.
Popular foreign liquor at slightly premium prices.
So I picked up a bottle of Marker’s Mark, Stolichnaya, and Disaronno. The best part was that in central Shanghai, they offer free same-day delivery!! What a hoot!!!
Now I just gotta find some Buffalo Trace…
But right now, It’s party time!!!
