Blogette #1 – Random Musing

This is just some random thoughts and topics all clumped together ’cause each is not large enough to warrant its own posting. It’s been a busy, interesting week.

Just What Do You Serve?

Two days! Two days to find Red Roosters Bar-B-Que House! And it was right across the street from us! Ah the anticipation of authentic American BBQ!! The promise! The desire! The enjoyment!

The heartbreak…

Sadly, they stopped serving and BBQ dishes last year. Major Sigh. And major ARGH!!

I told them they need to change their sign. Here’s a suggestion:
Red Roosters NO BBQ

60,000 Screaming Girls

May Day Boy Band
It’s just my estimate. But the other night the Shanghai Outdoor Stadium just across the street from us hosted the ‘very hot’ Taiwanese all boy band, May Day.

Now, just imagine: There is no parking to speak of so everyone comes on foot, subway and bus (very efficient). They arrive starting at 6 for the concert at 7:30. Its lasts until 11pm. And…no more buses  or subways trains for the night. Four lanes of city traffic backed up for hours and hours. Our Son and Daughter reserved a taxi and 10:30. It took 1.5 hours to get here through all the mess.

Seriously, I think the city should run the subways for a couple hours later when these events are scheduled. We got stuck in the bitter cold in 2004 on Western New Year’s Eve concert the same way. It was not pleasant.

Going…Going…Gone! Finally!!!

10 yrs, 72000 miles. great car.

So, we drove our car from KC to Los Angeles as part of our migration to China and left it with my wife’s brother, Wen, to buy or sell or whatever. Signed over the title and thought that was it. Ugh….were we wrong.

Buying a used car from out of state in California is hard. Near impossible with the owner out of the country. Even worse to sell to a dealer. Power of Attorney papers, multiple trips to the US Consolate in Shanghai, express delivery back and forth. Multiple trips for him to the DMV, the Dealer, the Post Office, phone calls, etc.

Two months later its done – and we got a whole lot more for the car than I thought we could. And Wen, got a nice compensation for his troubles! Thanks Wen!!

OMG!! It’s Full of Stars!

I think I can get a motorized adapter for it as well!

What a wonderful telescope! Yili’s relatives got this. Its practically new and they gave it to me. While there is not much opportunity for stargazing in Shanghai, with all the light pollution, I’m still sure I can put it to good use from time to time!!
Thanks!!!!!
