Random Barkings

First I’d like to start off with this excellent TED talk by my favorite MythBuster, Adam Savage: Here’s the Chinese YouKu version: http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNDE1NTM1NDY0.html Living in China has it benefits, and its retractions. One of the biggest disadvantages, for me at least, is the censoring done on Web sites. Google is heavily blocked, facebook, wordpress.com, and twitter, youtube, as well as many others. (correct: I’ve embedded a YouTube that I can directly view from China…) For quite a while now, I’ve wanted to post quick little mini-blogs about things I see/experience from time to time. Things that are not ‘big’ enough to deserve Continue Reading →

I am the Alpha and the Omega-3

Hello fateful fans!! It is I, Thor (beast) and I’m back with another installment of “Thor’s Days”. Today we will be talking about skin care for your hairy Charge. Or more precisely, I’ll be doing the writing while you’ll be doing the reading and taking notes. There will be a short quiz at the end!!! Back when my Caretakers took responsibility of me in Sept of ’12, it was evident that I had a skin problem. I had a dime sized crusty rash on my back just behind the shoulder blades. As it turned out, it was a fungal infection. Continue Reading →

2014 Shanghai Car Show

Formally known as the 2014 Pudong International Automotive Exhibition, we attended it on August 14th. Although I’ve been to a motorcycle show, this was our first auto show. Here’s a slide show of some of the event. [slideshow_deploy id=’714′]   It was loud, very loud – as though each display booth was trying to drown out the other booths. It was the first day of the 5 day show and being on a Thursday, not many people were there. Still, halfway through, we sought refuge in a McD’s on the second floor away from the noise and the crowds. Most Continue Reading →

A License to Drive

About a year ago, we looked into renting a car to drive around Shanghai and over to neighboring cities. There happens to be a car rental place just across the street from us. They have electric cars and standard gas cars: mostly compacts and sub-compacts (like the Honda Fit). And buying a car then was still very expensive and out of the question. Not only are cars were very expensive, but parking is non-existent (or very expensive) just about everywhere, gas is expensive, and its hazardous with people walking riding everywhere and drivers driving and parking everywhere (legally or not). License Continue Reading →

Alaska!

Last month we vacationed back to the states for an entire month…an entire month! Yipes!! What were we going to do for an entire month?! So I thought: how about an Alaskan Cruise? Great idea! My wife’s never been and its really breathtaking. So I hurriedly booked one. Little did I know just how busy we would be in America and how that little side-vacation really would be a welcome retreat. But back to the cruise. We booked on Holland America and their ship, the M.S. Westerdam. A ten year old ship with really classic interior and design. We got Continue Reading →
